NIGER DELTA YOUTH PARLIAMENT AND NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIAN STUDENTS’ STORM COMMERCIAL DRIVERS ASSOCIATION EMERGENCY MEETING TODAY OVER INCREASE OF TRANSPORTATION
Vows To Hit The Streets If Positive Compromise Is Not Met
18th November, 2021
Earlier today, we were shocked to our bone marrows when we saw a press release from the Unified Commercial Drivers Association Cross River State pre- informing the general public about their plans to Hike the price of short transportation fee in calabar, as member of the Niger Delta Youth PARLIAMENT we deemed it fit after wide consultantion in consensus with Honourable Akobi Nelson, member representing Bekwarra/Obudu/Obanliku federal Constituency and the Chairman of the Apex body of Nigerian Students Comr. Icha Godswil to storm the emergency meeting of the Drivers Association in order to lay bare our clamour for non- increasement of the fee.
When we stormed the meeting, the Chairman of the Association Pastor Thomas Effiong Okon warmly received us and upon tick deliberations, the Chairman noted as following;
1- that the intention of increasement is not political and does not have any thing to do with the Government of Cross River State;
2- that even Government Officials specifically the Commissioner of Transport have made calls to this effect;
3- that in collaboration with all interested Associations in the State, negotiations are open especially with the Businesses in charge of the various commodities being the reasons for the the propose Hike;
4- the Chairman accordingly appraised our concern and indicated our positive interest to our clamour.
Therefore, we hereby clamour for the following in the spirit of oneness and solidarity;
1- that as Niger Delta Youth Parliament and the Apex Students’ Association of Nigerian of Cross River State we say NO to the proposed increasement;
2-that we would also engage the relevant Businesses to reach a viable compromise before 12 a.m on Monday being the deadline for their proposed increasement;
3- that in as much as we concern with the welfare of the Unified Commercial Drivers, we also concern with the welfare of the vibrant youths of the NIGER DELTA and NIGERIAN STUDENTS’ and would be ready to hit the street if it turns out that the negotiation is not positive to us;
4- that we in conjunction would not fail to demonstrate that it is always Victoria arceta and Uhuru.
As a progressive Youths, our dreams is to see positive innovations in the State and not dissenting occurrences.
